Ethical Sales Floor opens

Zimbabwe’s tobacco sector continues to evolve — and this week marked a significant milestone.

The official opening of the Ethical Sales Floor auction facility by Ethical Holdings signals not only expansion in infrastructure, but growing confidence across the value chain.

Now the country’s third licensed auction floor alongside Tobacco Sales Floor and Premier Tobacco Auction Floors, the new facility brings increased competition, improved efficiency, and more marketing options for growers.

Opening day saw over 2,200 bales laid, with capacity for 3,500 per single lay — a strong early indicator of farmer trust and throughput potential.

The milestone coincides with 10 years of growth for Ethical Holdings, which has expanded from contract farming into a diversified business spanning financing, insurance, and exports. This reflects a broader shift toward integrated support systems for Zimbabwean farmers.

Representing Tobacco Industry Marketing Board, CEO Emmanuel Matsvaire highlighted the strength of the 2026 marketing season so far:
• 34.75 million kg sold (up 62% YoY)
• Over US$98 million in revenue (up 32%)
• Strong participation from growers nationwide

The event also underscored the sector’s push toward value addition, with the introduction of a locally produced cigarette brand under Ethical Holdings — aligning with national targets to retain more value within Zimbabwe.

For growers, this means better access, more transparency, and stronger price discovery. For the industry, it’s another step toward a modern, sustainable, and inclusive tobacco value chain.
